Attestation Departments-
There are many departments involved in getting document attested. Each department has its own roles and responsibilities. Let’s go through the attestation departments who are responsible for attesting our documents.
a) Notary Public/Solicitor – Very first process involved in attesting a document is from a Notary Public. Most of the documents such as Education documents/Personal Documents & Commercial documents are verified by a notary person only then it can go to the next step for verification. Notary Public is a public officer appointed by the government to serve the public. Notary Public has the right to sign the original document or a True copy. Not all documents can be notarized; it depends upon the content of a document.
b) Ministry of Foreign Affairs Attestation– Ministry of Foreign Affairs Attestation. This is a government department who is responsible to serve their citizens who are located abroad. Ministry of Foreign Affairs has the right to stamp the documents before it goes to the Foreign Embassy. This is the second department who verifies the documents after Notary. Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Foreign (home country) both are same except the change in the name.
c) UAE Embassy Attestation – UAE Embassy is a government body nominated by the UAE Government who is helping the expats in verifying the documents for the final time before the document reaches UAE.UAE Embassy department is located in the capital of a country. In most of the country, this is the third process involved in attestation after Notary Public & Foreign Affairs. People who wish to go to UAE have to get UAE Embassy Attestation from the home country. If there is no UAE Embassy in a particular country then the document have to be attested from a nearby country.
d) Qatar Embassy Attestation – Qatar Embassy is a government body nominated by the Qatar Government who is helping the expats in verifying the documents for the final time before the document reaches Qatar. The Qatar embassy is located in a foreign Country capital. In most of the countries, this is the third process involved in attestation after Notary Public & Foreign Affairs. People who wish to go to Qatar have to get Qatar Embassy Attestation from the home country.
e) Kuwait Embassy Attestation – Kuwait Embassy is a government body nominated by the Kuwait Government who is helping the expats in verifying the documents for the final time before the document reaches Kuwait. Kuwait Embassy is located in a foreign Country capital. In most of the countries, this is the third process involved in attestation after Notary Public & Foreign Affairs. People who wish to go to Kuwait have to get Kuwait Embassy Attestation from the home country.
f) Apostille – Apostille stamp is required for people who wish to go the countries which are a part of Hague Convention. This is the final department who verifies all the documents before it leaves the home country. Some of the countries which are part of Hague Convention are as follows – Australia / Bahrain / Cyprus / Denmark / Ecuador / France / Germany / Italy / Japan / Luxembourg / Mexico / New Zealand / Oman / Poland / Russia / South Africa / Turkey / UK / USA and many more countries.
g) Home Dept Attestation –This department is located in every state of the country. In most of the scenarios, we approach concerned Home Department Attestation for attesting Marriage Certificates. In order to add spouse name in the passport it is mandatory that the Marriage Certificate should undergo concerned home department attestation. This department is headed by the principal secretary.
h) Translation – Certain emirates in UAE requires documents to be translated into Arabic language. Only authorized people who are specialized can get the documents legally translated. Many types of translations are available, however, it’s mandatory that the document undergoes legal translation and not certified translation. All type of documents such as education, personal and business documents can be translated. There are two types of translation
i) Pre translation –Translation done before proceeding with the attestation
ii) Post translation – Translation done after completing the attestation.
i) Chamber of Commerce – Chamber of commerce department is mainly responsible for attesting company documents. The chamber of commerce stamp is required when we are planning to establish a company in a foreign country.
